I am about 27 here. This was almost 4 years before braces.

Braces off Day!!!! Woo Hoo!!! Age 33!!! And worth the wait.
Hey everybody! So the braces came off today - pretty painlessly I might add. I've posted the before and after (with braces & without) for you to compare. What an incredible journey! I never dreamed I would have straight teeth... SO glad I did this. True, there were several spaz attacks here and there, but in the end, it was worth it.
This is at age 32, and about 5 months before the braces came off!

I know it's cliche, but if you're thinking of getting braces "after 30" or thinking of having orthognathic surgery, I would encourage you to do so. I can't stop smiling :)
Big thanks to Krista & John for the lovely de-bracing dinner! It was awesome eating without having to clear each brace of a bunch of food. So easy!
Big thanks also to Toronto's best Dr. Christopher Cameron @ Yonge & Eglinton... I was never more happy to meet a perfectionist in my life. Thanks to all the staff as well... consummate professionals. I never had to wait more than 5 minutes in the waiting room either.
Big thanks again to Dr. Claudio Tocchio @ North York General. You did a fantastic job. My jaw no longer clicks, I can't feel the bones "grinding" anymore, and my bite hasn't shifted one bit.
MOST of all, thanks to my beautiful-toothed mother, Bev, and to my good friend Charlie. Without you two, I would have had a very difficult time. Thank you for crushing up aspirin, for making me ensure & whey milkshakes, for the walks and the talks, and for keeping my spirits up. Not two weeks before this surgery, me & my fiance split up, I had to move out, and I started a new job. Needless to say, an unluckier person would have easily cracked up. Without the support and reassurance you both showed me, I wouldn't know so well what it means to be so selfless. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. xoxo.
I'm off to do my whitening now...
You look amazing - I'm so jealous right now! Your surgeon and ortho did a great job:) I'm even more excited about my debracing now seeing your pics!!
ReplyDeleteWow, breathtakingly beautiful. Just stunning. The single men in Toronto better watch out, a 10 is in their midst!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, and those were sweet words. You are welcome for the shakes and talks and walks.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI really really admire your braveness to post everything here. I am 29 without any severe issues and I am also considering a jaw surgery in October. Mine will be an upper jaw and chin surgery. I hope to have a shorter recovery.
I found a great surgeon. My main concern is the weight loss, as I am only 52 which is my ideal weight now. I read almost all the blog but couldn't see anything about your diet. Can you recommend any specific food or cooking method?
You inspired me, thanks!
Celine
You are 52 lbs? I hope you mean Kilograms. Anyway, assuming you mean the latter (although I would completely agree that at 52 lbs you don't want to lose an ounce - unless you are under 1 foot tall)...
DeleteUm, the weight loss is usually pretty quick the first 10 days. Then it tapers off once you can get more ensure, bananas, whey powder, and homo milk in (think smoothie). After that I heated up donuts in the microwave, ate lasagna (slooowly), mashed potatoes and yorkshire pudding (slowly and with gravy)... and lots of chocolate and graham crackers (they melt down nicely). Sounds awful right? Cheesecake is your friend btw.
ps that was also a diet post-major breakup. Given a chance to go back, I would lean more toward healthy options involving more fruits and green pureed veggies. Probably would have had my juicer going. I'm not gonna lie though. Those sour cream donuts were perf.
DeleteLast but not least, you look amazing, supermodel like amazing!
ReplyDeleteCeline
you are too kind. Let's be bff's so you can tell me that every day :P
DeleteHi again,
ReplyDeleteIs your email still in use: troublebunny@hotmail.com? That would be really great if I can write to you after my surgery too..
Hehe, I am not 1 foot tall :) I am in Europe, sorry for forgetting to convert the units. I am 170 cms and I weight 52 kgs (114 lbs):) . My doctor told me that the hospital has a dietician who will help me with my diet as well. Fingers crossed! Thanks for your recommendations. I will check how I can get whey powder, I've never had it before. I feel like I really need to spend time on my shopping and investigation before the surgery. Did you take any vitamins as well? Anything helped you to recover and gain weight?
My profile is really similar to your pre-surgery profile. My issues are gummy smile and weak chin. I wish my surgery will be as successful as yours...
Celine
Hi again, hope you are fine.
ReplyDeleteI hope you will respond to me soon. I am looking fw to hearing from you. Maybe I can also send my pictures to you to ask your opinion about the similarity of my case to your case.
Many Thanks in Advance,
Celine
Hey - that email isn't in use, but feel free to post any questions!
ReplyDeleteThanks :) My surgery is now booked. It is on the 15th October. So excited and really scared!
ReplyDeleteI will keep you posted.
Thanks for your support!
Celine
I am on day 6 after a sliding genioplasty. I still have my braces on, but they should be coming off in a month or so (after 4 years!) The operation was something I had considered for a long time - funnily enough, I read your blog about 3 years ago when I first started considering the surgery - and now I am reading it again having finally gone through it.
ReplyDeleteI was 28 when I got my braces put on, but I am 32 now, and I would also strongly encourage those "after 30" to consider braces and surgery, if they think it is something they could benefit from. Thank you again for your blog and congratulations on your result - you look great!
